After the rain

Anna helped me weed the flower beds today. She loves getting in the dirt just like I do. I showed her how to pick lettuce from the garden and we potted 2 plants. She is a great helper. I am including a picture of the butterfly house Ernie made and I traced butterflies on the front and used my wood burner on them.

Rain today-we needed it

My blue birds are getting their nest ready; I see mama sitting in the house alot now. I feed them meal worms every morning and sometimes papa will take a worm and fly up to the branch where mama is sitting and feed it to her. So sweet!
I am sharing the flowers from my front yard - what a difference a few weeks make.

New Plants

Today was a perfect day; temps in the 70's, sunny, and not too many bugs. I planted tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. I now have flowers including Laguna-sky blue and petunias-picasso.

My little wrens are gone

Several days ago the wrens did not eat the worms I put on the railing. Yesterday we looked in the house and saw the beautiful nest with 3 eggs in it. We are sadly thinking something happened to the female.

First hummingbird of the 2011 season

I was surprised to get one so early but there he was a beautiful hummer drinking from my feeder. He kept coming back over and over. I put out fresh nectar and he came back and tested that too.

My hungry little wrens

I was able to get some good pictures of my wren family eating the meal worms I put out on the porch railing. They are taking them back to the house, so I think their might be little ones in there. Haven't heard them yet.

a nature adventure with my girls 4-3-11

Today, a beautiful Sunday, the girls and I started out on another adventure. Emme rode her bike and Anna walked with me. I brought along my camera so I could get some pictures. We got some nice pics of the spring flowers blooming, some interesting pics of the Cape Fear River behind one of our neighbors house and on top of all that we had a good time.

A new nursery to buy plants this year

Yesterday we checked out an ad I found in the local paper for a place to buy plants for my yard. It was great - 'Steve's Plants' is located out in the country where he has big greenhouses. He took the time to walk us around and gave me ideas for my flower beds. He was so nice and gave me some good advice for planting, pruning, where to plant and what to use. I can't wait to get started probably around the 15th of April.
